Caretaker govt decides not to take decision on petroleum prices

ISLAMABAD: The caretaker government has decided not to hike the petroleum prices, which will remain unchanged.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Oil & Gas Regulatory Authority had suggested an increase of Rs 8.37, Rs12.5 and Rs. 11.65 per litre in prices of petrol, diesel and kerosene oil respectively.

But interim Finance Minister Shamshad Akhter has said that she will not make decisions like the hike in petroleum prices.

As per the Caretaker cabinet they are not willing to take any responsibility for a verdict the PML-N government had left out on the last day.

The PML-N cabinet in its last meeting decided not to increase the oil prices and leave it to the caretakers while ordering that prices should remain unchanged for seven days i.e upto 7th June 2018.

The caretaker government has decided to keep up the present state of affairs.

Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) had in a summary on 30th May 2018, recommended an increase in the petrol prices up to 16.9%, which was to be effective from 1st June 2018, and the government was supposed to announce it on May 31.

As per the routine the government announces the new oil prices on the last day of every month, which is operative from the mid night of the new month.
