Sattar wants inclusion of Karachi projects in CPEC

Farooq Sattar

KARACHI: Leader of Mutahidda Qaumi Movement-Pakistan, Farooq Sattar, has suggested that several key projects of Karachi could be included in the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), ARY News reported.

Speaking to media here, the MQM-P leader said he was disappointed for what he described as ignorance of Prime Minister Imran Khan for Karachi projects.

‘Important projects like K-IV and a few others could be made part of the CPEC’, he suggested.

He called upon workers of the party to take a stand to restore democracy within the party. ‘Senior leaders of the party were given show-cause notice and it caused resentment among the workers,’ said Sattar.

He was of the view that some party leaders claim that democracy had been restored in the MQM-P, ‘which is not the case’, he added.

An accountability court had indicted Farooq Sattar, and other Mutahidda Qaumi Movement-Pakistan leaders on Saturday  in cases related to incendiary speech and attack on the ARY office.

The court read out the charges against them, stating that a hate speech was delivered outside the Karachi Press Club in August 2016 and MQM leaders facilitated the provocative speech. The court said that speech challenged the integrity of the country. “The MQM chief then ordered workers to attack a media house.”

The leaders of the party were then asked by the court whether they listened all such content in the speech. All of the accused replied in negative, to which the court responded, “Have some fear of God and speak the truth.”

Later speaking to media, Sattar called upon the government to clarify its policy on the case. “We are peace loving and we do not endorse statements coming from London in any capacity.
