KARACHI: Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah to visit drought-hit district of Tharparkar on Thursday (December 6), ARY News reported.
CM Sindh has decided to visit Tharparkar over reports of Increasing fatalities of infants in the region due to malnutrition and other diseases.
Mr Shah will be accompanied by Imtiaz Shaikh, Murtaza Wahab and other members of the cabinet during his Tharparkar’s visit.
The provincial chief executive will be apprised by the concerned high-ups regarding drought-hit district and counter-steps being taken by the concerned department to normalize the situation.
The CM is also scheduled to get briefing by Engro Coal.Meanwhile, a delegation of the United Nations (UN) is scheduled to visit drought-hit Thar today to mitigate the sufferings of local people.
According to the details, the UN delegation headed by its undersecretary had arrived in Pakistan yesterday to extend the sphere of social welfare activities in the draught-hit Thar.
Sources said that the UN in collaboration with Women Development Department Sindh will launch special program for mother and neonatal in Thar.
The UN will also introduce a program against child marriages and for women health in Sindh.
It is worthwhile mentioning here that the death toll of infants in the area has jumped to 540 during last four months of the current year in the area.
Whereas a report released by the United Nation’s Children Fund (UNCF) in April stated that Pakistan is among the countries with the highest infant mortality rates, with 22 infants dying before turning one month old.
