KARACHI: Police on Monday arrested a police constable in a case pertaining to the death of a seven-year-old girl in Karachi’s Saeedabad area, ARY News reported.
According to Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Tariq Nawaz, West Zone police arrested a police constable named Waseem Khan from Saeedabad area in the case of seven-year-old Iqra who lost her life after being seriously injured by what was initially termed a stray bullet on Sunday.
The constable told police that he accidentally fired the gun while cleaning it at his Saeedabad residence. The bullet critically injured a seven-year-old girl named Iqra at the school opposite his house.
The girl later succumbed to her injuries at a hospital.
Investigation Officer had initially revealed that the bullet hit Aqsa from a distance of between 150 and 200 yards. The recovered bullet was sent to forensic lab for investigation.
The constable deployed in Ittehad Town police has now been moved to Orangi Town police station.
It is pertinent to note here that earlier in August, a 10 year-old girl named Amal Umer too was killed by policemen in DHA area of the city.
Amal Umar, who was travelling with her parents in their car, died after she was hit by a bullet fired by a policeman in Defence Housing Authority on the night of Aug 13 during an alleged shootout with suspected street criminals.
