ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Tuesday lodged a strong protest with India over the recent ceasefire violations by its forces along the Line of Control (LoC) which led to the killing of a civilian.
The Acting Indian Deputy High Commissioner was summoned to the Foreign Office today where Director General South Asia and SAARC Dr Muhammad Faisal, condemned the unprovoked ceasefire violations in Khanjar Sector along the LoC, according to a statement.
Mr Faisal urged the Indian side to respect the 2003 ceasefire arrangement and maintain peace on the LoC.
He urged that the Indian side should permit United Nations Military Observer Group In India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP ) to play its mandated role as per the UN Security Council resolutions.
Muhammad Faisal said ceasefire violations by India are a threat to regional peace and security and may lead to a strategic miscalculation.
In a statement on Monday, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said: “In continuation of violation of ceasefire understanding, Indian army resorted to unprovoked firing and targeted civilian population in Khanjar Sector along the Line of Control (LOC).”
A civilian namely Guftar Hussain, 51, was martyred in unprovoked mortar shelling by the Indian troops, it added.
Responding to this aggression, Pakistan Army posts retaliated effectively and engaged enemy posts involved in unprovoked fire on innocent civilian population,” the military’s media wing said.
