KARACHI: Anwar Majeed, the head of the Omni Group of Companies and a close aide of former president Asif Ali Zardari, has approached the Sindh High Court (SHC) against the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for allegedly causing harassment.
Incarcerated Majeed filed a constitutional petition through his counsel pleading with the high court to restrain the FIA from harassing him.
After preliminary hearing, a bench of the SHC issued notices to the FIA and other official respondents to come up with their response on September 24.
Last week, a banking court sent Majeed and his son, Abdul Ghani Majeed, to jail on judicial remand in a money-laundering case.
The FIA had taken the two into custody on August 15 from outside the Supreme Court where he and his family appeared before the bench headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar in a suo motu case regarding money laundering of Rs35 billion through fake accounts.
Subsequently, their names were also added to the Exit Control List (ECL) on the directives of the top court.
Anwar Majeed and his son Abdul Ghani Majeed are among the people being investigated for their alleged involvement in the money-laundering scam.
PPP co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari, his sister Faryal Talpur, and former Pakistan Stock Exchange chairman Hussain Lawai have also been named in the scam.
