ISLAMABAD: The National Security Committee (NSC), the country’s top civil-military body, on Friday expressed satisfaction over the progress made so far to meet the requirements of a global terror financing watchdog to avoid being put on the blacklist of countries unable to combat terror financing and money-laundering.
A meeting of the NSC was held in Islamabad on Friday with caretaker Prime Minister Justice (retd) Nasir-ul-Mulk in the chair.
The committee directed that the progress should be shared with Financial Action Task Force (FATF) Secretariat in the upcoming meeting, according to a statement issued after the meeting.
It reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to work with the FATF and other international organizations in achieving common goals and shared objectives.
Finance Minister Shamshad Akhtar gave a detailed presentation about the upcoming meeting of the Financial Action Task Force in Paris and the measures, both administrative as well as legal, taken so far by the country to meet the FATF requirements.
The meeting was attended by the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) Gen Zubair Mahmood Hayat, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Mujahid Anwar Khan and other civil and military officials.
Pakistan is required to submit an action plan for review by the FATF in its plenary meeting scheduled to take place in France from June 24 to June 29.
The country faces imminent risk of being put on the blacklist of countries that are unable to combat terror financing if its action plan is rejected by the task force.
