ISLAMABAD: National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser here on Tuesday urged the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to play their role for progress and development in the agricultural sector of Pakistan.
Talking to the UNDP’s representative in Pakistan Hao Liang Xu who called on him in Islamabad, Qaiser said that Pakistan was making sincere efforts for the sustainable development goals in the country and had established a secretariat to meet its targets.
The speaker said, “The incumbent government is committed to eradicate terrorism, illiteracy, unemployment and poverty and raise the living standard of the common man in the country.”
He said that Pakistan was an active member of the United Nations and supported its charter which played vital role in establishing peace in the world.
On this occasion, Hao Liang Xu said that UNDP wanted to see Pakistan as a progressive and prosperous country.

Earlier on February 1, Prime Minister Imran Khan had said that agricultural development was the top most priority of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government.
Chairing a high-level meeting, PM Imran had sought proposals from the provinces about reforms in agriculture sector and had asked to submit their suggestions and recommendations within a week.
The prime mister had said that Pakistan would take benefit from Chinese expertise in agriculture sector. He had asked the provinces to pin point the hurdles in the progress of agriculture sector.
