ISLAMABAD: In a protest against model courts, lawyers have announced to boycott the proceeding of courts in Islamabad and Lahore on Friday (today), ARY News reported.
Addressing a gathering of lawyers, outside the court of Islamabad High Court Chief Justice Athar Minallah, the Islamabad District Bar Association’s General Secretary Raja Yasir Shakeel said that they would observe the strike against establishment of model courts.
He asked the lawyers that they should not appear before the model courts and warned that the lawyers’ body would suspend their lincences of practice it they would appear before the model courts.
It is pertinent to mention here that the lawyers had also observed strike few days earlier in Islamabad.

Earlier, Many courts in parts of the country stopped functioning as lawyers had observed strike in order to protest against the new National Judicial Policy on April 11.
High courts and subordinate courts, however, had continued proceedings despite the strike but litigants were only being given new dates of hearings due to the absence of lawyers.
Litigants had faced troubles following proceedings suspended in various courts across the the country on the appeal of Pakistan Bar Council.
Many people had been stopped at the gate of Karachi’s City Court.
