KARACHI: The process of scrutiny of nomination papers has commenced ahead of upcoming elections for the post of Deputy Mayor Karachi, ARY News reported on Monday.
Nomination papers of Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) candidates Arshad Hassan and Mansoor have been accepted by the election officers.
Candidates can file appeal against accepted or rejected nomination papers on April 4 while the nominees can take back their nomination papers till April 10.
Electoral signs will be allotted on April 11 besides the release of final list of the candidate.

Earlier on March 21, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had announced that the election of deputy mayor Karachi will be held on April 18.
The office was vacated due to disqualification of Arshad Vohra for switching party loyalty after being elected to his position. His former party MQM-P had approached the election commission to de-seat Vohra for switching loyalty to the Mustafa Kamal-led Pak Sarzameen Party.

On March 29, at least five candidates belonging to different political parties had submitted nomination forms to contest the upcoming elections for Karachi’s deputy mayor.
Arshad Hussain and Mansoor Ahmed from Mutahidda Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) submitted their forms. While Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) nominated its local leader Akramullah for the slot of deputy mayor.
Similarly, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) also nominated one member each from their parties.
