LAHORE: New Inspector General of Punjab Police (IGP) Arif Nawaz Khan on Wednesday assumed charge as provincial police chief in a ceremony at the Central Police Office here, ARY News reported.
Outgoing IGP Amjad Javed Saleemi handed over the baton of command to the new police chief of Punjab.
Capt. (retd) Arif Nawaz Khan had also served earlier as Punjab police chief from July 2017 to June 2018.
He was given a guard of honour during the change of police command ceremony at the central police office in Lahore.
During his talk with the media after taking charge, the new police chief said that police department should improve its performance by standing with the oppressed. “We have no other option except to perform in a best way,” Captain Arif Nawaz said.
“Those officers will remain in my team who will perform,” the police chief said.
He said the police force under his command will fulfill its responsibilities.
Earlier, the government relieved Amjad Javed Saleemi as the Inspector General of Punjab Police (IGP), replacing him with Captain (r) Arif Nawaz Khan.
The government of Punjab in its order directed Saleemi to report to Establishment Division with immediate effect.
Arif Nawaz Khan had worked on the same position earlier. He was relieved from the post before the general elections last year. He was presently serving as secretary Narcotics Control Division.
