Minor passes away as doctors go on strike

Minor, passes away, doctors, strike

SUKKUR: A minor child in wee hours of Thursday died in Sukkur because of strike of young doctors across Sindh, ARY News reported.

The eight-month-old child breathed his last because of lack of medical care. Family members of the kid said it died as doctors were on strike and there was nobody to take care.

Mother of the victim said one of his children passed away five years ago for a similar reason as doctors were on strike then as well.

“Now, after five years I have lost my another son because of medics,” she said.

She said a doctor administered an injection to her child after which it could not breath again. The child was suffering from fever only, she added.

ARY News correspondent Ashfaq Niazi said doctors gave time to their private clinics and charged hefty amount from patients, while they did not give much attention to the patients at the public hospital.

The Young Doctors Association (YDA) on Wednesday resumed their province-wide strike at public hospitals, despite the Sindh government’s accepting their demand to increase their salary.

The doctors want the provincial government to issue an official notification for the pay raise. “The protest will continue till the notification is issued,” they had said.

The Out Patient Department (OPD) and other operations in the hospitals across the province, including Karachi’s Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, Dr Ruth Pfau Hospital and National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases remained suspended due to the strike, however they had said to continue performing their duties in emergency and other wards.
