Accountability court extends Aleem Khan’s remand for 10 days

LAHORE: An accountability court on Friday extended remand of detained Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Abdul Aleem Khan for 10 days, ARY News reported.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) officials produced the PTI leader amid tight security before the court of AC Judge Najamul Hassan Bukhari today in a case pertaining to assets beyond known sources of income and offshore companies.

During hearing of the case, NAB’s prosecutor said Aleem Khan was a common man in 2000 and suddenly became millionaire as his assets now worth rupees 871 million.

Khan remained Punjab minister in 2003 to 2007 and set up 35 companies, while several of his bank accounts also surfaced.

“The suspect did not show his assets details in the Election Commission,” he continued in his arguments and requested the court to remand the suspect to its custody for another 15 days.

Meanwhile, Aleem Khan’s counsel in counter arguments in the court said, his client has submitted all of his documents to the anti-graft watchdog body.

The bureau was trying to distort facts, the counsel said and added Khan was arrested in off-shore companies case but later was presented in assets beyond means reference.

He pleaded the court not to remand his client as he has submitted all the supporting documents to the NAB.

AC Judge, Najamul Hassan Bukhari, while approving Aleem Khan’s remand for 10 days adjourned the hearing.

NAB arrests Aleem Khan

It is pertinent to note that the PTI leader had tendered his resignation after being nabbed by the anti-graft watchdog on Feb 6.

The provincial lawmaker had been taken into custody when he appeared before the NAB for the hearing of two cases against him pertaining to offshore companies and assets beyond his sources of income.

His answers had failed to satisfy NAB officials during the inquiry, leading to his arrest.
