ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Wednesday informed the National Assembly that the chief justice had directed to review the issue of placing names of Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah on the Exit Control List (ECL), not to remove the names from the ECL.

Replying to the Points of Order raised by Pakistan Peoples Party MNAs Shazia Marri and Naveed Qamar in the House, Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that the decision on removing the names of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Murad Ali Shah from the list would be made after receiving detailed written judgment of the Supreme Court.

He said a committee was also working in the Interior Ministry that decided the issues relating to the ECL.

The foreign minister informed the House that a number of national and international factors were at play in drop of the potato prices in the country.

He said potato was being sold at the price of one rupee per kilogram in neighboring India because of bumper crop of the commodity.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi said as agriculture had become a provincial subject after the 18th Amendment, there was a need to coordinate between the federal and provincial governments to mitigate the sufferings of potato farmers.

He invited all political parties across the spectrum to show unity to resolve such national issues.

FM Qureshi said the issue of drought in Balochistan was because of the global warming.

“Let’s come together and discuss what resources do we have and how to resolve the issue with them,” he said adding that the Balochistan Disaster Management needed to work on this issue.

Replying a question, Minister for Railways Sheikh Rashid Ahmad said that Pakistan Railways is incurring a loss of 20 million rupees annually for granting discounts to its passengers.

He said Pakistan Railways provides a discount of 50 percent to citizens above 65 years of age, disabled persons and students.

He said Pakistan Railways is also providing free of cost traveling facilities to senior citizens above the age of 75.

To another question, Minister Incharge for Aviation Division, Muhammad Mian Soomro said weekly flights of the Pakistan International Airline (PIA) from Karachi to Dalbandin were reduced from two to one due to limited market demand.

He said the PIA was keeping a constant eye on market indicators, traffic trends and viability of this route and will take necessary steps to expand the operation between Dalbandin and Karachi.

A bill to further amend the constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan was introduced in the House.

Parliamentary Secretary Law and Justice, Malaeka Bukhari presented the bill on behalf of Minister for Law and Justice Dr. Farogh Naseem.
