LAHORE: A mob comprising scores of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) workers attempted to break into the accountability court on Thursday as party president Shehbaz Sharif was present inside the court for Ashiana Housing Scheme case.
According to details, a number of PML-N workers along with former information minister Marriyum Aurangzaib gathered outside the accountability court premises as Shehbaz was brought by National Accountability Bureau officials for the trail of corruption case.
Initially, the crowd of workers was chanting slogans in favor of their president which soon turned into a mob and tried breaking barriers in a bid to burst inside the court. Meanwhile, the police baton charged the aggressive workers and arrested a few.
Further, the women workers of PML-N also manhandled policemen during the disruption, ARY News reported.
The physical remand of Opposition Leader in National Assembly in Ashiana case ends today. This is the seventh time that the PML-N president is being presented before the accountability court.
Later, the accountability court judge sent Shehbaz to prison on judicial remand.
Security has been tightened in and around the court premises.
Arrest of Shehbaz Sharif
The National Accountability Bureau on Oct 5 arrested Shehbaz Sharif inside its Lahore office where he was summoned to record his statement in connection with the Punjab Saaf Pani Company case.
A combined investigation team of the country’s top anti-graft watchdog quizzed him for an hour over his alleged role in awarding contract to his “favourite firm” in violation of laws in the Ashiana-i-Iqbal housing project.
The Bureau later issued a statement, declaring that former Punjab chief minister Shehbaz Sharif has been arrested in the scam.
Shahbaz’s blue-eyed officers, Lahore Development Authority former director general Ahad Cheema and Fawad Hasan Fawad, are already in NAB custody in the Ashiana Housing case.
