ISLAMABAD: Stressing the need of population planning, Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday said that religious scholars can play vital role to control population in the country.
Addressing a symposium on population control at the Supreme Court, PM Imran said that we have to include the subjects of environment and population planning in school curriculum.
He said that small family drive was an effective movement to control the population but unfortunately it was dropped.
Pm Imran said that the population is on the rise in the country people were moving toward congested areas.He aimed at former governments saying that they neglected the issues of population and water.
Talking about environment, the prime minister vowed to plant 10 billion trees across the country in the five year tenure. He said timber mafia unlawfully cut trees worth Rs200 billion and added that Pakistan will be the seventh country to be affected by global warming.
He said that Pakistan is currently facing troubles because the previous governments did not think beyond their five-year tenure. The prime minister said that the foundation of Naya Pakistan was laid on the same day when the apex court gave verdict in Panama case.
The conference was organized by the Law and Justice Commission and presided over by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Mian Saqib Nisar with Prime Minister Imran Khan as the chief guest. All four provincial chief ministers were also present in the the day-long symposium.

Earlier, addressing the symposium Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar called for immediate steps to control over increasing population in the country on Wednesday.
The CJP said that increasing population of the country demand immediate attention, as underdeveloped countries like Pakistan, have limited resources.
The CJP maintained that basic resources like water and food are getting scarce while our population is growing at an alarming rate.
Terming the education, a prime tool to control populace, the CJP said that “we will be facing severe problems in future if we fail to control over increasing population.”
The top judge said it’s our responsibility to create ease for the upcoming generation, the executive has to take initiatives with regard to curbing increasing population.
