ISLAMABAD: An accountability court will resume hearing into Flagship Investment Reference against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif today, ARY News reported.
Judge Arshad Malik will conduct the proceedings of the case. Mr. Sharif turned up before the court yesterday, however, according to sources the former PM may not appear during the hearing today.
His lawyer will submit a request for exemption of his client from appearance, sources told ARY News.
The reference has entered in decisive phase after prosecution witness, the Panama JIT Head, Wajid Zia, completed his testimony in the reference two days ago. The court has already closed evidence in the Al-Azizia reference.
The defence counsel and the prosecutors hope that the proceedings in both Al-Azizia and Flagship Investment references would be wrapped up before the Supreme Court’s deadline of Nov 17.
On Tuesday’s hearing, former minister of PML-N, Daniyal Aziz was asked to leave the courtroom by the Judge, Arshad Malik for shaking hands with party leaders during hearing of the reference.
Daniyal Aziz entered the courtroom when Nawaz Sharif’s Flagship case hearing was underway and upon seeing members of the party, he started shaking hands with them.
Nawaz’s Lawyer excused for the act of Daniyal Aziz saying that Mr. Aziz was unaware that the court session was underway.
