ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Thursday announced the disqualification of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Zia-ur-Rehman as a member of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly, for contesting polls while holding a fake degree.
Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Mian Saqib Nisar headed a Supreme Court bench hearing a case pertaining to fake degree of the PML-N leader.
As the hearing went underway, the Chief Justice inquired Rehaman about the specifics of his degree, to which he failed to satisfy the bench.
The Chief Justice then remarked, “You did your matric in 1996 and did a course in a madrasah in the same year. How is this possible?”
“The head of the madrassah also informed that you did no course from there,” the top judge added.
The bench of apex court then announced the verdict in the case disqualifying Rehman after declaring his degree fake.
Rehman had won the electoral battle from PK-30, Mansehra-I during the general election.
Earlier today, the top court dismissed a review petition, filed by now incarcerated PML-N leader Hanif Abbasi, challenging the verdict of a disqualification case against Prime Minister Imran Khan.
In January this year, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Hanif Abbasi had filed a review petition against the apex court decision to reject the disqualification case against PM Imran for concealing assets in the nomination papers.
