LARKANA: Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University (SMBBMU) and Chandka Medical College (CMC) in collaboration with Higher Education Commission (HEC) held a walk to create mass awareness about the breast cancer in Larkana on Wednesday.
The walk was organized in connection with the World Breast Cancer Day (Pink Ribbon Day). The day is observed this year to raise awareness among the masses about issues relating to Breast Cancer.
The walk started from Sir Shahnawaz Bhutto Memorial Library and concluded at Chandka Medical College(CMC). The participants were carrying placards and banners inscribed with slogans against the fatal diseases.
The Walk was led by the Dean of Faculty of SMBBMU Larkana Professor Rafia Balouch, Additional Registrar SMBBMU Larkana Dr. Atta Muhammad Siddiqui and Dr. Shahida Shaikh.
Meanwhile, a public awareness seminar on “Breast Cancer, their prevention and early detection in Females” was held on Wednesday at auditorium of CMC Larkana.
The seminar was organized by the Department of Surgery, Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University (SMBBMU) and Chandka Medical College (CMC) Larkana.
The seminar was organized particularly for women. Expert lady surgeons, lady doctors and oncologist delivered lectures on various aspects of breast diseases.
Dean of Faculty of SMBBMU Larkana Professor Rafia Balouch, Dr. Shahida Shaikh, Dr. Saira Fatima and Dr. Saima Athar delivered their papers on various aspects of breast diseases, their prevention and awareness about breast cancer and early detection and also highlighted the health problems including breast cancer in women and the causes of different diseases.
The speakers on the occasion said that about 40,000 patients died due to breast cancer every year in Pakistan. One out of every nine women is at the risk of breast cancer, the prevalence of which is the highest among all cancers in Pakistan, they added.
