ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Power Omar Ayub Khan on Thursday said that the prevailing issue of tripping in main transmission lines in coastal regions is due to adverse weather conditions, ARY News reported.
According to a statement released from his office, the minister said that issues such as tripping in in the areas under K-Electric and other coastal regions is due to the adverse weather.
He explained that high moisture in the coastal areas causes technical faults in the main transmission lines which ultimately bring power outage in the areas of Karachi, Thatha and Badin.
The minister also directed the authorities to investigate the matter in detail to see if any preventive maintenance was carried out by both NTDC and KE.
Omar Ayub Khan warned that that strict action will be taken against officials if it is established that the issue was caused due to any negligence.
He further added that he would not let consumer suffer for negligence and incompetence of officials deputed on these sites.
The minister also directed the concerned authorities to immediately prepare proposal for replacement of insulator and carry out maintenance work so that the issue may not arise in the future.
It is pertinent to note here that several parts of Karachi experienced power cuts in wee hours on Thrusday.
The areas that reeled under the breakdown in electricity supply included North Nazimabad, Liaqatabad, Saddar, Gulbahar, Azizabad, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulsitan-e-Jauhar, old city area, Malir, Clifton, Defence, Steel Mill and few others.
K-Electric shared the reason of power disruption on Twitter and said “due to tripping in the EHT Network” the metropolis is facing the electricity outage as “supply from National Grid to the city is off.”
