ISLAMABAD/KARACHI/LAHORE: Processions of 9th Muharram were taken out amid tight security and concluded peacefully after passing through their designated routes across the country, ARY News reported on Thursday.
In the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi, a procession was taken out from central Imambargah in G- 6/2 which was later joined by smaller processions reaching from Rawalpindi and other adjoining areas of the capital. It was also joined by processions taken out from Imam Hussain Mosque G-10, Barakahu village and other suburban parts of the area. Several Majalis-i-Aza were held at the residences of the faithfuls.
In Karachi, a majlis (religious gathering) was held at Nishtar Park from where the main mourning procession started and passed through MA Jinnah Road, Mehfil-e-Shah Khurasan, Saddar, Preedy Street and Baba-e-Urdu Road. The mourners offered Zuhr prayers at Imambargah Ali Raza on MA Jinnah Road and the procession culminated at Hussainian Iranian Imambargah in Kharadar.
Stringent security measures were taken to ensure security of mourners. A ban has already been imposed on pillion riding in various districts of Sindh, including Karachi, from Muharram 8 till Muharram 10 by the provincial government.
In Lahore, a Zuljinah and Alam procession was taken out from Aza Khana Pando Street in Krishan Nagar area.
The procession reached Imambargah Khaima Sadaat after passing through Inder Street, Dyal Street, Guru Tegh Bahadur Road, Main Bazaar Krishen Nagar, Secretariat Chowk, Church Road, Nabha Road, Edward Road and Old Anarkali.
The main procession of the day in Peshawar was taken out from Hussainia Hall Imambargah located on the Saddar Road. It passed through Saddar Road, Green Chowk and Kali Bari to arrive at the Fawara Chowk where the mourners offered Zuhrain prayers. Later, the speakers gave speeches about the events of Karbala.
Youm-e-Ashur, the 10th of Muharram, will be observed with reverence and religious solemnity in the country on Friday.
