Minor whose arms were amputated will get treatment abroad

Sindh Govt boy electrocution

KARACHI: The Sindh cabinet with Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah in the chair on Monday (today) decided to send the eight-year-old boy, who lost both his arms after electrocution in Karachi, abroad for treatment.

The decision was made during a meeting of the provincial cabinet in the metropolis today.

The chief minister said the government will help the child get medical treatment abroad. He was briefed on meetings between the parents of the minor and K-Electric officials.

Provincial minister Imtiaz Sheikh said the power utility was ready to pay a compensation of Rs 2.5 million to the victim of the electrocution incident and that the amount was doubled on the directives of the chief minister.

He said the K-Electric is unwilling to bear the expenses of the child’s treatment in any foreign country.

The chief minister said every possible step would be taken to ensure recovery of the minor.

Eight-year-old boy Umar’s both arms had to be amputated by doctors due to severe burns he had sustained after an 11,000-Volt electrical wire fell on him in Ahsanabad Sector-4 off Super Highway where he was playing.

After the incident, the boy was rushed to a hospital where doctors diagnosed that his arms were wasted because of the severe burns.

Burns Center In-Charge, Dr Ahmer said they tried their best to save the arms but to no avail. They had no option but to cut the forelimbs as they were critically burnt, he said.
