The Chinese Foreign Minister landed at the Nur Khan Airbase on Friday where Foreign Office officials received him. This is a first high-level visit of any top Chinese official since the new government installed in Islamabad.
During his stay in Islamabad, Wang Yi will also meet with Prime Minister Imran Khan as well as Chief of the Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa.
He is expected to meet the President-elect Dr Arif Alvi and various leaders of opposition.
The issues that are likely to come under discussion during the scheduled meetings between the officials of the two countries include current regional security situation.
China’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hua Chunying had earlier said the two sides will exchange views on bilateral relations as well as international and regional issues of mutual interest.
“We hope and look forward to this visit, continue the traditional friendship between China and Pakistan, promote mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields, and push China-Pakistan all-weather strategic partnership to a new height,” she added.
The Chinese foreign minister’s visit comes two days after US Secretary State Mike Pompeo visited Islamabad to hold bilateral talks with the Pakistani civil and military leadership.
