ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Chaudhry Manzoor on Wednesday confirmed that his party has decided not to vote for Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) nominee Shehbaz Sharif during the election for prime minister, ARY News reported.
Speaking exclusively to ARY News, Chaudhry Manzoor said that his party leadership had informed the PML-N at least three days ago that their MNAs will not vote for Shehbaz Sharif.
The PPP leader, however, added that his party wants to vote for a joint candidate from opposition and will wait for PML-N to change the candidate.
Earlier, PPP chief Bilawal Bhutto Zardari too hinted at the same while speaking to media in the federal capital.
As one of the reporters asked if his party’s parliamentarians will vote for PML-N president Shehbaz Sharif during the election of PM, the PPP chief said that he will urge PML-N to change its PM nominee.
An opposition alliance comprising PPP, PML-N, ANP, MMA and other parties named “alliance for free and fair elections” on August 7 had jointly decided to support a PML-N candidate for PM, a PPP nominee for speaker and MMA lawmaker for deputy speaker slot.
The elections for speaker and deputy speaker slot were held on Wednesday in the National Assembly wherein PTI’s Asad Qaiser and Qasim Suri elected as the speaker and deputy speaker.
Asad Qaisar was contesting against PPP nominee Khursheed Shah. Qaiser received 176 votes whereas Shah got 146 votes.
The opposition alliance reportedly voted for PPP nominee as planned.
