ISLAMABAD: Azerbaijan Prime Minister Novruz Mammadov and his Sri Lankan counterpart Ranil Wickremesinghe on Sunday congratulated Imran Khan on swearing in as the prime minister of Pakistan.
In a message issued by Azeri Embassy in Islamabad, Novruz Mammadov said Azerbaijan and Pakistan were linked with strategic partnership and close relations which originated from the will of their friendly and brotherly peoples.
He said he was sure that the bilateral cooperation based on mutual confidence, trust and support, would further improve and expand by the joint efforts in the years ahead.
The Azeri prime minister also extended greetings to the PM and Pakistani Muslims on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha.

Meanwhile, Sri Lankan PM Ranil Wickremesinghe called Prime Minister Imran Khan and congratulated him on assuming the office of the prime minister of Pakistan.
While conveying his compliments, the Sri Lankan premier underscored the importance of both countries working together in diverse areas of mutual interest to further strengthen bilateral relations.
Imran thanked Wickremesinghe for the congratulatory phone call. He noted that while both the countries enjoyed strong and friendly ties, there was a need to galvanize the bilateral relations in all spheres, including political, economic, defence and tourism. He also conveyed good wishes for continued progress of Sri Lanka and its people.
Meanwhile, United Kingdom Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn has felicitated PTI chairman Imran Khan for becoming the Prime Minister of Pakistan.
In a tweet message, Corbyn said we give our support to the people of Pakistan and hope that the new government can deliver social justice and help build a country that works for all.
