GHOTKI: Sardar Ali Muhammad Mahar, an MNA-elect from NA-205, Ghotki, has decided to join the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) which is poised to form a government in Islamabad.
Mr. Mahar, who contested the election independently, will formally announce his joining the PTI after a meeting with prime minister-in-waiting Imran Khan. He is said to have set out for the PTI chief’s Bani Gala residence for the purpose.
Sources said PTI vice chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi and party leader Arif Alvi contacted and convinced him to join the party.
Mr. Mahar served as Sindh chief minister in 2002 and has previously remained member of the National Assembly.
A day earlier, independent candidate Saleh Muhammad, who won election from National Assembly constituency NA-13 Mansehra-I by securing 109,282 votes, joined the PTI.
The PTI emerged as the single largest party after the July 25 elections and is set to form a government at the Centre.
