Pirzada wants a professional PSB DG

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) Mian Riaz Hussain Peerzada backs and supports the appointment of professional Director General Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) in line with the directives of Supreme Court.

On a day when Joint Secretary Ministry of IPC Aamir Ali Ahmad reluctantly took over the additional charge of DG PSB till the permanent DG’s appointment, Mian Riaz Hussain said he would ensure the appointment of professional head of the Board. “Over the years we have worked hard to earn good name for the PSB and despite meager resources we succeeded in putting things on right track.

We would not allow the good work going to waste by appointing a non-professional on the post. There is no capable man within the PSB having the ability and proper education to run the affairs smoothly. What we need is a qualified and experience official for the job as was directed by the Supreme Court of Pakistan.”

The Minister said that the PSB committee has finalised a roadmap for the selection of full time Director General PSB. “The summary has been forwarded to Establishment Division after which it would be handed over to Ministry of Law for vetting.

At the completion of all the necessary requirements, the Supreme Court would be intimated about the selection criteria evolved for the picking the right person for the job. We have added a clause where a retired person from forces if he is having the right qualification can also apply for the job-giving broader prospective to the post.”

The Minister adopts wait and see policy in Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) matter. “We are waiting for detailed judgment and are considering pros and corns of the whole situation. Though the High Court has given the verdict in favour of one party the others have their reservations.”

The Minister also praised Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) president Salim Saifullah Khan for promoting tennis. “He is the one who backs and supports his players and off and on talk about giving them incentives. We have recently announced naming grass court complex in the name of Aisam Complex who indeed is a big honour for the player.”
