RAWALPINDI: Military Spokesman Major General Asif Ghafoor has thanked the United Nations for acknowledging Pakistan’s peacekeepers.
In a response to United Nations tweet, Director General Inter Services Public Relations, Major General Asif Ghafoor said, “Pakistan is one of the leading contributors for global peace since 1960.”
The military spokesman said 156 Pakistanis have sacrificed their lives under UN Flag.
Earlier, in a tweet, the United Nations had acknowledged Pakistan’s contribution to peacekeeping.
“UN peacekeepers come from different countries, cultures & backgrounds -- but share a common purpose to protect the most vulnerable,” the UN said on twitter with a photo of Pakistan military’s female doctor serving as peacekeeper.
According to UN Pakistani peacekeepers deploy to seven missions. Pakistan provides more than 6000 military and police officers to UN peacekeeping.
